So, I have a professor (actually I had her last semester) who is super-cool. She's really friendly and enjoys getting to know her students outside of class, which I think is the best way to be. So many in academia don't have any interest in getting to know those who fill the rows of seats in their classrooms. In fact, I'm rather closely acquainted with a soon to be Ph.D student who doesn't even want to learn their names (but he'll be working largely with undergrads, so I suppose that's excusable).
Anyway, it turns out that she [super-cool professor] and I live in the same neighborhood. Well after talking with her today - I've confirmed that I totally want to be a law professor. It seems like such a great life, you get to meet tons of interesting students, you get to research topics that interest you, you have the opportunity to travel in your academic pursuits, and you get paid a fair salary (nothing earth-shattering, but more than enough to get by). Additionally you get to be a strong women in a largely male-dominated discipline.......oh, right - that doesn't translate for me.....but then again there aren't many gay law professors either....
