Rehashing 'the game'

What the hell is wrong with people?? Seriously - all day, all I've been hearing is people rehashing football games from this week-end. Notre Dame losing to USC (not Throck btw) - The Steelers losing to the Jaguars - Penn State......OMG really people - who the hell cares? I can understand the "Hey did you see the game?" with the standard "Yeah, such a shame" response - but we're talking in detailed analysis about every play and every call that every official made.

I mean, why bother spending hours of time on the pointless postgame conversations reliving every stupid play....

Granted - I'm not a fan of American football (in case you haven't guessed) - so maybe I'm being a little judgmental - but I don't think I'm being 'that' judgmental - because these people are crazy - Come on people - it's a game - it's for entertainment - it's supposed to take you mind off of the vexing stuff that is reality - just leave it at that. Watch it, be entertained and then be done. Christ.

But if you've gotta dissect the entire 3-hour ordeal - have a little courtesy and drop down the volume and stop gesticulating like you're throwing a pass. Because you look ridiculous.

Don't you have anything better to do than bitch about what other people are interested in. I mean, I can't stand when you blather on about transportation issues. Granted, your commentary does have more redeeming social value than footbal, but "treesus chrust", let it go!

At first I thought I'd throw out the first pass with a "nice use of the thesaurus" for the word "gesticulating". Then I realized your pretentiousness was not feigned, you are studying law.

Please remember, conversations about somthing other than yourself can be enjoyable.

I'm anonymous because i don't feel like signing up for an account. but it's Kelly. i was one of the football rehashers. I freely admit it and refuse to apologize for it. because frankly, 70% of your conversations annoy me, but I still respect your right to discuss those things that are important to you, including your iTunes, your Whole Foods experiences, and your arrogant value judgments regarding everyone who does not think the way you do.

I notice a trend with you. when other people are offended by sexually derogatory remarks you make, everyone should have thicker skin. when you are offended by a derogatory remark someone else makes, everyone should be more sensitive to other people's feelings.

we all have our trivial interests that entertain us. few people claim that the weekend football game was life or death. but if three people are sitting around a table and two people want to discuss a game, there's no reason such a discussion, if it is entertaining to the two people having it, is breaching some type of courtesy any more than any conversation you have that is less than fascinating to others.

and while I acknowledge being pregnant and hormonal (you may check with grant for the extent to which this leads me to overreact), frankly, perhaps you should spend as much time critically analyzing your own conversations and speech as you do other people's, because if you did so objectively, you'd probably find that the moral pedestal you've placed yourself on is shoddy construction.

…some of us feel the same about those damn Desperate Housewives.

I don't doubt that some people don't like Light Rail, Whole Foods & Desperate Housewives, but I have yet to observe any of those topics (individually or in sum) dominate the discourse of the student lounge for an entire day, such that there is effectively no reprieve. This blog post was the result of a 'boiling over' if you will.

I may respond more comprehensively to these comments in a future post. If I do, I'll incorporate them into the body of the post.

P.S. What's with the anonymous posting?

My posting was anonymous because it was one step less than signing up for a username and password. But I clearly identified myself. unless you know multiple pregnant Kelly's.

the second anonymous posting was not me.

regardless of how much the conversation dominated the student lounge, if you're free to make dead baby jokes to a pregnant woman, then I'm free to talk about football to my heart's content. courtesy does not demand that I take a count of the number of football conversations already ongoing and refrain from exceeding any designated quota.
