This is why I love the French.....
Okay so about a year and a half ago the French passed a law allowing the government to sell-off part of its holdings in state owned utilities like GDF and EDF - I saw this article today which reminded me of the the whole situation. I love that the unions are sooooo strong and that if they feel the least bit threatened they aren't afraid to use a power outage to their advantage......even one specifically directed at the homes of government officials.
If only the AFL-CIO had half as much grit......

All I'm saying is that if our labor laws were passed in the French legislature today, by tomorrow half the country would be striking and there would be riots in the streets of Paris, Lille, Lyon & Marseille.
We [citizens of the U.S.] acquiesced to our labor laws, they weren't authoritatively imposed upon us. So I'm standing by my "Grit" comment.
Though I am hopeful that the recent union 'shake-up' in this country is a sign of stronger unions and better conditions/terms for Americans workers.
