Sarkozy is Nuts

Right - so Nicolas Sarkozy is a nutbag - this guy just said that France did not want "those people that nobody else in the world wants." He added, "We want selective immigration." This is a piss-poor response to the recent unrest.

Seriously - there are a lot of people who feel isolated and marginalized by French society - certainly a statement of this nature isn't going to aid the situation. It's just a blind political move b/c this bastard wants to be President in 2007. All I've got to say is that I hope that mainstream France is too smart for this BS - for to fall prey to such fearful manipulation....well that would be....so American.

Maybe Immigration needs to be reformed - but you don't have to be mean about it - you've got five million people in largely immigrant ghettos who aren't leaving France anytime soon. Let's make a good-faith integration and affirmative action effort and leave out the "The Immigrants are the cause of all of Frances problems" - excuse....because that is.......so 1930's Germany (except back then it wasn't immigrants.) This is the type of shit that LePen and LePen alone should be saying.

Societies have problems - blaming groups of people (aside from Republicans) seldom solves these problems.


Also - all these new anti-terror laws seem a little shady and unnecessary - Europe already has some pretty pro-law enforcement legal regimes - do they really need to go farther - Perhaps we should focus on tolerance and acceptance (of diversity - Get rid of the headscarf ban) and perhaps the domestic fears would be ameliorated.
