Another Reason NOT to Live in Suburbia
I just got off the phone with my mother, she had quite a harrowing night - my brother, who's diabetic, had a whole "blood-sugar going low and I'm going into seizures-type of event" - which totally sucks. I mean my brother has been diabetic since he was in second grade, so this isn't the first time that my mother, or I, have dealt with this situation - but apparently last night was pretty bad. Now getting to the relevance of the title of this post. My mother, like any normal person seeing someone convulsing in their bed, immediately called 911 (that's right it's 9/11 times one). Bottom line - EMS took 15 minutes to respond and get to her house. That is absolute piss poor response time - if he were having a stroke or a heart-attack - he would have been totally fucked. So the moral of the story is that not only is sprawl isolationist, bad resource management, poorly planned and really heavy on transport costs.....but it could totally get you killed. Fuck sprawl, long live the city....where EMS can get to your home before the brain damage sets in.
